Abstract

The utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (Tanaman Obat Keluarga/TOGA) in Langgomali Village has not been fully supported by proper garden arrangement, plant identification, and adequate information on their use. This community service activity aimed to strengthen the function of TOGA as a health education resource through the development of a community medicinal plant garden, plant labeling, education, and community involvement. The activity was conducted from July 20 to 30, 2026, involving approximately 30 residents and village officials. A participatory approach was applied from the stages of needs observation and joint planning to land and planting-media preparation, planting, labeling, and descriptive evaluation. The activity resulted in the establishment of one TOGA area containing 11 plant species, equipped with labels providing information on plant identity, parts used, traditional uses, simple preparation methods, and precautionary messages. Community members participated in site arrangement, polybag preparation, planting, installation of informational materials, and discussions on garden maintenance. Oral reflection provided a general overview of participants’ responses but was not used to conclude an improvement in knowledge because no structured assessment instrument was employed. The TOGA garden has the potential to serve as a shared learning resource; however, its sustainability requires designated local persons in charge, a maintenance schedule, and regular monitoring of plant conditions.
