Dimensi Eksistensial Tokoh Nun dalam Novel Antara Laut Halmahera dan Eropa Karya Ario Muhammad Perspektif Viktor E. Frankl

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of searching for the meaning of life of Nun, the main character in the novel Antara Laut Halmahera dan Eropa by Ario Muhammad, based on Viktor E. Frankl’s existential psychology perspective. This research is motivated by Nun’s life journey involving loss, alienation, suffering, and struggles in finding the meaning of life. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach. The research data consist of quotations from the novel Antara Laut Halmahera dan Eropa by Ario Muhammad that represent Nun’s process of searching for life meaning. The analysis found 75 data findings classified into three existential dimensions: internal, external, and transcendental dimensions. The results show that Nun’s search for meaning develops through the processes of self-awareness, social responsibility, and appreciation of spiritual values. In the internal dimension, Nun finds meaning through self-awareness and her life purpose of becoming a teacher, representing the concept of will to meaning. In the external dimension, the meaning of life develops through empathy toward family and social responsibility, reflecting self-transcendence. Meanwhile, the transcendental dimension is represented through spiritual values, freedom of choice, and moral responsibility. Therefore, Nun’s life journey illustrates that suffering can become a pathway for individuals to develop themselves and discover the meaning of life.
